Things to consider after a non-fault accident

The information below is a general guide only. The exact position will depend on the circumstances of the accident, your own insurance policy, the third-party insurer’s position, and the terms of any agreement entered into.

Going through your insurer

  • Your claim may be handled under your own policy – This can mean dealing with your own insurer’s process, excess rules and claim procedures.
  • Replacement vehicle options may be limited – Your policy may only provide a courtesy car, subject to availability and policy terms.
  • You may need to stay involved throughout – You may have to manage updates, documents, repair progress and insurer communication yourself.
  • Your claim may still appear on your insurance record – Even where the accident was not your fault, your insurer may still record the incident.

Stay updated throughout your claim

From replacement vehicle updates to insurer communication, we keep you informed throughout the process.

Questions about your claim?

Here are answers to some of the most common questions drivers ask before starting their claim.

Will I really have zero excess to pay?

In eligible non-fault accident claims, you will not usually need to pay your own policy excess because the claim is pursued against the at-fault insurer rather than through your own policy. Credit hire, recovery and related charges are pursued from the at-fault insurer where appropriate. Charges may become payable in limited circumstances, as explained in the customer agreement and Terms and Conditions.

What kind of replacement car will I get and for how long?

We provide a suitable like-for-like replacement vehicle wherever possible — usually a similar size and class to your own. You keep the vehicle for the duration of repairs or until your claim is settled if your car is written off.

Does just calling you for advice affect my insurance?

No, not at all. Simply speaking to us for advice or guidance has no impact on your insurance policy or no-claims discount. We only proceed with a claim if you choose to.

Do I have to manage any of the paperwork or talk to the other driver?

No. We manage all the paperwork, negotiations, and communication. You don’t need to speak to the other driver or deal with their insurer at any point.

Will this affect my no-claims bonus?

In most non-fault claims, your no-claims bonus and claims history can remain protected because we deal directly with the at-fault insurer instead of claiming through your own policy.

What happens if the other driver disputes the accident?

We gather supporting evidence including photos, dashcam footage, witness statements and repair reports to help establish liability. Our experienced claims team handles these situations regularly and works to protect your position throughout the claim.

Support from start to finish
